C&E Branch Attends 2023 WiDS Awards Breakfast

On the 2nd of March the Branch Leader, BGen Dave Yarker, and Branch Chief, CWO Alex Arndt, joined eight deserving members at the 2023 Women in Defence & Security(WiDS) Awards Breakfast. This year’s event, held at the Shaw Center in Ottawa, saw over 1,500 people attending live and virtually bringing together many unique and empowering women in Canada’s defence and securities industries. The C&E Branch was proud to support this initiative and the C&E Branch members who have made a difference in their communicates and units. Master Corporal Donovan Santa: Cyber Operator of the Year 2022

Congratulations to Master Corporal Donovan Santa who was presented with the 2022 Cyber Operator of the Year Award. The citation reads: Cyber Operator of the Year 2022 Award presented to Master Corporal Donovan Santa Master Corporal Donovan Santa has been critical to the successful conduct of DND/CAF defensive cyber operations and in maintaining defensive cyber capabilities throughout the global pandemic. Their support to Op UNIFIER and Op REASSURANCE had direct positive impacts on Canada’s relationship with Ukraine and Latvia. MCpl Santa’s professionalism, resilience and ethical conduct was critical within the unit and while operating abroad, resulting in outcomes that bring repute to, and reflect positively on, DND/CAF. Their actions and success are recognized by the C&E Branch through their selection as the Branch Member of the Year.

Happy Birthday to the Cyber Operator Occupation!

  On January 31st, 2017, the Cyber Operator occupation (MOSID 00378) was officially stood up. In April of 2017, the first Regular Force positions were converted to reflect the Cyber Operator occupation. The occupation has grown tenfold across all NCM ranks since it was established and continues to grow. Congratulations to the members of MOSID 00378 on your progress to date, and Happy 6th Birthday!

Happy 101st Birthday to Cpl Hugh Patterson, WWII Dispatch Rider!

  Cpl (Ret) Hugh Patterson recently celebrated his 101st birthday in a modest celebration with friends and family on the 30th of December, 2022. Op JIMMY SANTA 2022

  For six years now the Communications and Electronics (C&E) Association has sponsored Op Jimmy Santa, providing small gifts of Branch memorabilia to each member of the C&E Branch deployed over the Christmas season. With the initial assistance of the Signaler’s Club, the partnership expanded to include CJOC, CF Postal Service, the Museum and the Canadian Forces School of Communications & Electronics (CFSCE). The Association’s President Major-General (retired) John Leach says that he feel it is important to do as ”this is a salute to members of our Branch who spend the holiday season on duty away from family. The CAF depends on you!” During the pandemic and now, members of Mercury Troop from the Canadian Forces School of Communications & Electronics (CFSCE) assisted in Operation Jimmy Santa.  This year, our Museum Administrator Racine Manradge joined Privates Bailey Carter and Brady Jones to pack 153 holiday boxes for multiple missions overseas.  It was a fun afternoon with seasonal songs playing, chocolate mint cookies and festive attire.
