Sgt Navas awarded 7 Comm Gp Member of the Year 2020

Sergeant Chris Navas (then MCpl) was selected as the 7 Comm Gp Member of the Year 2020 but was not presented with the recognition due to COVID-19. On 27 September 2021, 7 Comm Gp CO Col Denis Boucher & Formation CWO Shelly Harris presented the award. The citation reads: 7 Communication Group Member of the Year Award presented to Master Corporal Christopher Navas Master Corporal Navas has distinguished himself by displaying exemplary dedication, leadership and initiative during the past year and is awarded the 7 Communication Group Chief Warrant Officer Award. MCpl Navas consistently demonstrates remarkable dedication to supporting critical missions on his own time, selflessly providing technical expertise and guidance to personnel in support of multiple operations domestically and abroad to sustain the Canadian Armed Forces secure communications systems. MCpl Navas’ exceptional commitment and devotion exceed expectations, setting the example for peers and subordinates to emulate. These actions impact the overall of success of the Formation and reflect positively on 7 Communication Group and the Canadian Armed Forces as a whole.

IM Group Gives a Warm Welcome to Its New Group Chief Warrant Officer

Source: ADM(IM) Updates / 27 September 2021 On September 2nd, 2021, a Change of Appointment ceremony was held at Carling to officially hand over Group Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) responsibilities from CWO Robert McCann to CWO Pascal Turcotte. CWO Turcotte joins the IM Group from Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Bagotville, where he was the 3 Wing and CFB Bagotville CWO. He brings with him a wealth of practical and operational experience and is excited to face new challenges that the IM Group CWO position will bring. As a departing gift, the outgoing Group Chief was presented with a certificate for his great service by the ADM(IM) on behalf of the entire IM Group, as well as a token of appreciation by the Executive Team. CWO McCann has moved to his new position in the Chief Professional Conduct and Culture Command (CPCC) as the inaugural Command CWO. We wish CWO McCann the best of luck in his new position as Command CWO of CPCC and in all his future endeavours!

Capt Wan receives a coin from VCDS

Captain Wan received the coin during the VCDS visit to CANELEMNORAD in Colorado Springs on 30 Sept. The citation for the coin is as follows: Capt Wan’s commitment to the NORAD mission is evidenced through his efforts on the NORAD-Transformation project. Capt Wan has expertly navigated the hurdles that have been uncovered as the project progresses towards termination. Capt Wan has also displayed excellent communication skills through their ability to synthesize complex information related to the NORAD Transformation project and adapt the information to any audience. Their dedication to the mission and advancing NORADs interoperability and network stability is admirable.

Branch Advisor Appointment

Officers and Warrant Officers of the C&E Branch and founding services: On behalf of the Branch Leadership; the Colonel Commandant and Branch Leader are honoured to announce that Colonel John Roper, CD has been appointed as the next C&E Branch Advisor.  The position took effect on 24 September 2021. Colonel Roper presently serves as the Director of Aerospace Equipment Program Management (DAEPM) for Radars and Communications Systems.  He brings wealth of experience to the portfolio, having served in the Army Reserves as an Armoured Trooper with operational experience before transferring to the Regular Force as a CELE Officer.  He held appointments and positions at CFSCE, the CFJSR, and ADM(IM) in a range of staff and line functions.  He held senior command appointments at NORAD and 22 Wing, and garnered years of experience in command & control and cyber operations.  Colonel Roper holds a Master of Defence Studies, a Bachelor of Science, and a Diploma in Applied Computer Programming. As the C&E Branch Advisor, Colonel Roper will be entrusted to provide counsel and advice to the Branch Leadership and Commander Military Personnel Command regarding trade, profession, and personnel challenges impacting all the occupations under the C&E Branch.
