1. AFTER MORE THAN 37 YEARS OF LOYAL SERVICE, MAJ M. ST-CYR RETIRED FROM THE ROYAL CANADIAN CORPS OF SIGNALS AND THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON AUGUST 1, 2024. 2. MAJ ST-CYR JOINED THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES IN JULY 1987 AS A TERMINAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN (TET). 3. AFTER COMPLETING HIS EDUCATION AND TRAINING AT CFLRS AND CFLS ST-JEAN SUR LE RICHELIEU, HE HEADED TO CFSCE IN KINGSTON TO COMPLETE HIS TERMINAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN (TET) QUALIFICATION. HIS FIRST POSTING WAS TO 731 COMMUNICATION ESC IN SHILO, MANITOBA, FROM APRIL 1989 TO JUNE 1992. 4. IN 1992, HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO 711 SIGNAL SQUADRON AT THE VALCARTIER BASE FOR A PERIOD OF 1 YEAR, BEFORE BEING TRANSFERRED TO 5 CMBG GHQ IN AUGUST 1993. DURING THIS POSTING, HE WAS DEPLOYED TO CROATIA IN 1995 WITH THE 2R22R. 5. IN MARCH 1997, HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE R22R BATTLE SCHOOL, WHERE HE WAS ASSIGNED TO RADIO REPAIR AND COMPUTER SUPPORT. 1 Oct 1966 Marks the Birthday of the Communicator Research Occupation 58 Years of excellence in SIGINT 1966 Integration and Unification 1 October 1966 – A new Military Occupation (MOC) 291, Communicator Research (Comm Rsch), was created incorporating the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Radioman Specialist (RS) trade, the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals Radio (RCCS) Telegraphic Operator (R & TG) trade, and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Communications Operator (Comm Op) trade into a single occupation for the conduct of Signals Intelligence (SIGINT). July 19, 1966 – Integration and Unification, creation of the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio System (CFSRS). Stations previously controlled independently, by the three services would now be directed by a Commander headquartered at HMCS Gloucester. October 1, 1966 – Military Occupation (MOC) 291 (Communicator Research Operator) was created. RCN Radioman Special (RS) trade, along with the Radio Telegraphic Operators (R&TG) of the Royal Canadian Signal Corps and the Royal Canadian Air Force Communications (Comm Op) began their duties as 291’rs. 1 October is officially the date when the Communicator Research occupation was created.
