RETIREMENT – BRIGADIER GENERAL JAMES LAMBERT, CD, 00341 SIGS

  1. BRIGADIER GENERAL JAMES LAMBERT, CD WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AFTER 36 PLUS YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA ON 21 OCTOBER 2022. 2. BGEN LAMBERT JOINED THE CANADIAN FORCES IN 1986 AND GRADUATED FROM THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE IN 1991 WITH A DEGREE IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. AFTER MANY YEARS IN 5 GBMC, INCLUDING A DEPLOYMENT WITH 1 R22ER ON A UNITED NATIONS MISSION IN HAITI, HE WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR IN 2001 AND THEREAFTER COMPLETED A MASTER’S DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION FROM LAVAL UNIVERSITY. IN JUNE 2006, HE WAS APPOINTED THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF 2 CMBG HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNAL SQUADRON IN PETAWAWA, FOLLOWED IN MAY 2008 BY A DEPLOYMENT TO KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN, AS THE CANADIAN JOINT TASK FORCE J6, WHERE HE WAS PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF LIEUTENANT-COLONEL. IN 2009, BRIGADIER GENERAL LAMBERT WAS ASSIGNED TO THE US ARMY COMMAND AND GENERAL STAFF COLLEGE IN FORT LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS, FROM WHICH HE GRADUATED WITH A MASTERS IN MILITARY ART AND SCIENCE. Happy 100th Birthday to Cpl (ret) Hugh Patterson!

  On 17 July 2022, family, friends including military family and friends gathered in the Legion in Caledonia to celebrate Cpl Patterson’s 100th birthday.  He enjoyed a few beer while exchanging stories and sharing a few laughs with over one hundred people who came by to see him.  He even donned his beret and legion jacket with his numerous medals that tell the story of his outstanding service to our country. Cpl (ret) Hugh B. Patterson is a Veteran Signaller and Despatch Rider who served in WWII from July 1942 to January 1946 with 2nd Canadian Infantry Division Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.  He completed basic military training in Orillia, July 1942.  In September 1942, he completed Advanced Signals training at Vimy Barracks, Kingston, ON. He deployed to Europe in December 1942, specifically to Cove Hampshire, England, Signals Holding Unit. He was part of D Day and followed 2nd Division through France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He was in Oldenburg, Germany on VE Day. He returned to Canada in December 1945. Capt Bencze receives the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (DMSM)

  Capt Bencze receives the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (DMSM) from the U.S. Ambassador to Canada, David L. Cohen, during the 03 June 2022 U.S. Embassy Military Awards Ceremony in Ottawa. Captain Christopher G. Bencze, Canadian Army, distinguished himself by outstanding meritorious service as Cyber Domain Chief and Deputy Chief, Cheyenne Mountain Operations Branch, North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command, Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado from July 2018 to June 2021. During this period, Captain Bencze demonstrated outstanding proficiency and steadfast devotion to duty through his accomplishments on the command center watch floor, and by management of the Continuity of Operations spaces within Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station. Furthermore, he rewrote all 600 series checklists, restructured the Cyber syllabus, and performed multiple crew evaluations. Finally, as the Deputy Chief of the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Branch, Captain Bencze was the driving force behind the reorganization of the Continuity of Operations spaces and the completion of a $1.3 million project to create a tertiary command center that enabled the continuation of the defense of North America during the Coronavirus-19 pandemic. Burlington Veteran Douglas Ross Rickard marks 104th Birthday

  June 25, 2022 — Press release from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 60 Burlington  The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60 Burlington wishes a very Happy Birthday today to one of its valued members, 104-year old Douglas Ross Rickard (pronounced “rih-KARD”).  His wife, Jean, celebrates her 100th birthday on July 11.  Plus, the Rickard’s celebrated their 78th wedding anniversary yesterday (June 24).  These three special dates were recognized recently during a special ceremony at Branch 60 which included the Rickards’ daughter Marie, remarks by Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and a surprise performance by Frank Sinatra tribute artist Dan Lauzon, a Canadian military veteran and a Vice President of Branch 60.  Douglas Ross Rickard is believed to be the last Canadian survivor of the Dieppe Raid during the Second World War.  It was one of the darkest chapter’s in Canada’s military history but it was also marked by great courage and helped lead to important lessons being learned to prepare for the D-Day invasion of 1944.  Mr. Rickard was a member of the Royal Canadian Corp of Signals.  He arrived at Dieppe in the early morning of August 19, 1942 aboard a tank landing craft (TLC) containing three tanks.  He […]

Starting of his his enrollment on the 3rd of May 1996, CWO Peter Holub CD has proven to be exceptional in his career as a former SIGINT Specialist and Career Manager, which led to his multiple deployments to Italy, Kosovo, Afghanistan (more than once).
