‘FACES OF OUR FALLEN’ PROJECT

Jun 3, 2020 | 0 comments

The non-profit organisation “Faces to Canadian War Graves Groesbeek”, as part of the Faces to Graves project in the Netherlands, aims to publish a short story of every one of the soldiers buried in Groesbeek. Here is the link to the Faces to Grave Newsletter. Their partnership with Holten and Bergen op Zoom Canadian War Cemeteries will eventually realize a database for all of some 2700 Canadian soldiers who are buried in the three Canadian War Cemeteries in the Netherlands or whose names are on the Memorial Walls. It is intended that all online stories will be available on https://canadianwargraves.nl, on rcsigs.ca, and on cmcen-rcmce.ca. The Graves of Our Fallen Project (http://www.rcsigs.ca/index.php/Graves_of_our_Fallen_Project) has identified 58 Signallers in these three War Cemeteries and we want to assist with telling their stories. In addition to locally displaying these stories for visitors, Groesbeek is well-advanced with their online “Digital Monument”, but few of our RC Sigs stories have been captured. In fact, to date only limited research has been done and stories posted on rcsigs.ca on two soldiers at Groesbeek (Capt Loughnan and Sigmn Rodrigues) and two at Holten (Lt Burslem and L/Cpl Taylor). Our hope would be to ultimately expand our efforts […]

PRes Lead on Op REASSURANCE

In February of this year, 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment (21 EW Regt) deployed nine members on a Technical Assistance Visit (TAV) to Op REASSURANCE on Roto 20-01 to support training and evaluation of the enhanced Forward Presence Latvia Battle Group in Camp Adazi, Latvia. Though this is a routine occurrence throughout the year for the Regt, this TAV was different in that it was mounted by the Primary Reserve (PRes) squadron (sqn) held within the Total Force (Reg F) unit. 214 Sqn is one of five sqn within 21 EW Regt, a total force unit comprised of both Reg F and PRes members. 214 Sqn was tasked in early September of 2019 to mount the February TAV in support of the Combat Readiness Evaluation for the current enhanced Forward Presence Latvia Battle Group. While some members of the TAV were placed on Class B (full time) contracts to prepare, others were in school or travelling for CISM sports before deploying. The tendency of 214 Sqn to keep its members operationally ready, even on Class A (part time) service, proved valuable and these members were able to jump from Class A service to an operational deployment with very little lead time.
