This year marked the re-commencement of Exercise COMM PLAYER; an annual hockey tournament designed to foster a competitive spirt, regimental / unit pride, and camaraderie. Tremendous thanks is owed to the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment (CFJSR) – OPIs Lieutenant Allan Turtle and Sergeant Francois Lebrun – who took the helm at co-ordinating, planning, and executing this event. The interest and drive exists to push forward with this important historical competition for the foreseeable future, expanding the tournament to a larger base of units across Canada as what was done in the past. This year, C&E / RCCS units from Petawawa, Trenton, and Kingston participated with standings as follows: 1st Place: Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment (CFJSR) 2nd Place: 77 Line Regiment (77 LR) 3rd Place: 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment (21 EW Regt) The ceremonial ‘puck drop’ this year was conducted by Mr. Russell Thompson; a resident of Seeley’s Bay and a veteran of the Global War. A soldier in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, Mr. Thompson served with the 5th Division during the liberation of the Netherlands where his communications detachment operated a mere 5 kilometers from the front lines. Aside from his duties as a soldier, Mr. […]

Last year it was voted in that all serving members be offered a one-year free membership to the Signallers Club of Canada (This includes C&E Members who have retired after 01 Jan 2009). Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity! THE GENESIS OF THE CLUB A small group of ex-members of The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals got together in Kingston on the 24th of October 1979 to commemorate the Corps Birthday. “Why don’t we do this more often?” was the consensus. Some aims were formulated on the spot – to renew old acquaintances, maintain esprit de corps, get to meet every now and then on a social basis, maintain liaison with the modern-day version of the Corps and perhaps in some way assist ex-Sigs types who may not have been as lucky as the rest of us. The first meeting of the new Club was held in March 1980 – with 18 persons present. The name selected for the Club was “The Signallers Club (Kingston)”. A viable Constitution was developed and subsequently approved. INCORPORATION In the late summer of 1984 the Club applied to the Federal Government to become an incorporated entity. After the usual submissions, filing of documents, […]
