Message from the New Communications & Electronics Branch Advisor – Lieutenant-Colonel Steeve Lavoie

Apr 17, 2024 | 0 comments

This message is intended for all members of the C&E Branch. I am honoured and thrilled to accept this appointment as your new Branch Advisor. I wish to acknowledge my predecessor Colonel John Roper for his service as Branch Advisor. I have been wearing our “Jimmy” proudly for my entire career of almost 35 years (joined in June 1989). I spent my first ten years as a technician (223 Tel Tech, 225 SIS Tech) and the past 25 years as an officer (CELE), I have served in various ranks on four operational tours (OP ARCHER/ATHENA, OP UNIFIED PROTECTOR, OP AFGHAN ASSIST, and OP PROTEUS). I have also had the privilege of serving as the Branch Adjutant. So, from experience I say that I am impressed to see our Branch personnel serving with such technical competence, maturity, mission focus, and “no fail” attitudes. My exposure and experience over the past 35 years have provided me with friends and colleagues throughout Canada and the world in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Canadian Navy, Special Operations Forces, and our nascent Canadian Armed Forces Cyber organization. The Branch is an organization that is intended to unite us (RCCS, RCAF, RCN, SOF […]

50 Years of Signals in Red Deer Celebration

Celebrating 50 Years of Signals: Unveiling of Mercury Statue at Cormack Armoury In a commemorative event marking 50 years of service, 41 Signals Regiment 2 Squadron Red Deer is set to celebrate its rich history on April 27th at Cormack Armoury. Initially established as the first reserve signal unit in Red Deer under the name 745 Communication Troop in 1974, the squadron has evolved over the years, eventually becoming 749 Communication Squadron and, since 2011, 41 Signal Regiment 2 Squadron Red Deer. Despite its modest size, the squadron has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness, with soldiers deploying on 50 individual overseas missions during its half-century of existence. To honour this milestone, 41 Signal Regiment has acquired a statue of Mercury, symbolizing communication, which will be mounted atop a specially constructed pedestal at Cormack Armoury. The unveiling ceremony of the Mercury statue will take place during a public event at Cormack Armoury on April 27th. The festivities kick off with a national job fair, followed by a free community BBQ from 1200 to 1400. The statue unveiling is scheduled from 1400 to 1430, followed by a Regiment and Alumni family BBQ at 1800. The project is made possible through the generous donations […]
